Fabric Care Guide
Understanding Cleaning Codes
- W — Clean with a water-based cleaner or mild detergent and water only.
- S — Clean with a dry-cleaning solvent only; avoid water-based cleaners.
- WS — Clean with a water-based cleaner, mild detergent, or dry-cleaning solvent.
- X — Vacuum or brush only; no liquid cleaners of any kind.
Check your fabric's product description or care label for its specific code before cleaning.
Caring for Upholstery & Decorative Fabric
Vacuum regularly with a soft brush attachment to prevent dust and grit from wearing down fibres. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — never rub, which can push stains deeper or damage the weave. Always test any cleaner on a hidden area first.
Caring for Sunbrella & Outdoor Fabric
Sunbrella fabrics are fade- and mildew-resistant and can typically be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution, rinsed, and air-dried. Avoid bleach unless specified safe for your exact fabric, and check manufacturer guidance for heavily soiled cushions.
Caring for Faux Leather & Vinyl
Wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh solvents, which can crack or discolour the surface, and keep faux leather out of prolonged direct sun and extreme heat.
General Tips
- Always test cleaners on a hidden swatch or seam allowance first.
- Keep fabric out of direct, prolonged sunlight to reduce fading.
- When in doubt, professional cleaning is the safest option for expensive or delicate fabrics.
